13' One-Design BLUE JAY

Ever attentive to the needs of even their youngest clients, Sparkman & Stephens realized in the early 1950's that a smaller version of the LIGHTNING would be very popular with junior skippers. The BLUE JAY(nicknamed the "BABY LIGHTNING ") included all of the thrills of its big sister, including a spinnaker, and was likewise available in kit form for home construction. Of course, the boat turned out to be a success with older folk as well; in fact, the first BLUE JAY fleet in San Francisco Bay was helmed entirely by adults!

Plans are available for amateur construction for $75. The kit includes a sail number, a class yearbook and a set of construction plans.

19' One-Design LIGHTNING CLASS

The Lightning was designed in 1938 as a hard chined centerboarder capable of planing. From her humble beginnings the boat has evolved in to a fairly technical racing boat. Over 15,000 boats have been built to this design.

30' Daysailer - DARK HARBOR

Sparkman & Stephens and Shaw Yachts are proud to announce the reintroduction of the Dark Harbor 20, the 30-foot LOA, 20-ft DWL one-design class sloop originally designed as wooden plank-on-frame construction in 1932. Today, most of the original 21 that were built are actively racing in Islesbore, Maine. The new ‘DH20s’ are being built to both augment the original fleet as well as offer a classic daysailer to those outside the fleet. Using modern fiberglass materials and production techniques, the new DH20s will be offered at a very reasonable cost and offer a low-maintenance way to own a piece of sailing history.
