Building on past IMS success, Sparkman & Stephens designed this 81’maxi-sloop for a life-long racing yachtsman. She was the first yacht designed to the IMS Maxi Class Rules, and broke new ground with her the use of pre-impregnated carbon-reinforced composites. Using advanced FEA tools, the S&S team produced a stiff yet incredibly light monocoque hull. Staying true to her racer-cruiser billing, SAGAMORE boasts a fully furnished interior finished to impeccable standards. When not racing, she accommodates three couples and four crew for comfortable cruising. Even with her cruising interior, her all up sailing weight is significantly less than previous generation maxis. Competing in a class talent rich class with the likes of Russell Coutts and Chris Dickson, SAGAMORE turned in numerous impressive performances at the Kenwood Cup, Maxi Rolex Cup, and was the 1995 Maxi World Champion.

73' Racer/Cruiser ENCORE

This elegantly designed IMS racer/cruiser was designed by Sparkman & Stephens and built in aluminum by Derecktor shipyard. Sailed by a father-son team, she quickly established herself on the racing circuit, by winning the Annapolis-Newport Race, Marblehead-Halifax, Antigua Race Week, and the Mohegan Race during her inaugural season. The following year she placed second in the Newport-Bermuda Race and in 1993, was the overall winner of the prestigious Fastnet Race. Her outstanding race record is partly due to an innovative design feature developed by S&S allowing her full cruising interior to be removed, thereby saving precious pounds while racing. When in place, her interior reflects old world craftsmanship and world-class luxury reminiscent of yesteryear. In the words of her owner, “On deck ENCORE's feels like a Ferrari, while below interior she is more akin to a Rolls Royce”.

Continuing the Sparkman & Stephens tradition in this venerable class is the 6 meter TEMPEST. While reflecting classic sheer and styling above the waterline, this 6 meter hull shape, keel, rudder have been thoroughly optimized by a VPP software and in-house hydrodynamic analysis. The careful attention paid to keel-rudder flow interaction ensures this new 6 meter will remain competitive for years to come.
